How Kiva Works (in brief)
Kiva partners with existing microfinance institutions around the world (known as Field Partners). These organizations have expertise in microfinance and a mission to alleviate poverty facilitate Kiva loans on the ground.
You, as the lender, browse loan requests and select which one(s) you like to fund. You can fund as little as $25 and as much as the entire amount of the loan.
The Field Partner collects repayments from Kiva entrepreneurs as well as any interest due and lets Kiva know if a repayment was not made as scheduled.
If there is already money in the Field Partner's account, or once their payment is received, Kiva uses these funds to credit the appropriate lenders with their loan repayments. Lenders can re-lend their funds to another entrepreneur, donate their funds to Kiva (to cover operational expenses), or withdraw their funds via PayPal.
For example: I recently lent some money to a group of clothing manufacturers in Uganda. Within a matter of months, they had repaid my loan, leaving me free to either collect my money, or re-invest into another entrepreneur's business.

You choose your design option
The design options below are all premium WordPress themes (aka high-end, ready-to-go designs) - many of which I've modified for the sake of added flexibility and usability based on my years of experience building websites for all sorts of businesses. You'll select the design option that best fits your brand. These sites are designed by some of the finest web designers out there today, and in my opinion, are more handsome and effective than 95% of the sites out there.
You choose your hosting
To keep the price of these high-quality sites as low as possible, if you haven't purchased hosting yet, then go ahead and sign up for Bluehost (the company at the top of WordPress' list of recommended server hosts) using my affiliate link. This way I get the affiliate commission payment which subsidizes part of the cost of your site.
If you have already purchased hosting, then there’s an extra fee of $85 since I won't be getting the affiliate commission, and also since I may need to spend some time figuring out a new hosting company's system.

You provide me with the content you'd like to use on your site
I've made this as easy as possible with a series of worksheets for your particular design option. Once I get your completed content, then I'll schedule a time to build out your site using the content you've supplied.
Remember, since you'll now be able to update your own site, you can always add more content at any time. We've got some amazingly helpful videos that will show you just how easy it is to make changes on your new website thanks to the magic of WordPress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Are there any additional costs beyond what you've already mentioned?
A. The only other mandatory additional costs will be for your web site hosting and domain registration. If you go with BlueHost, hosting will cost $6.95 per month. You pay for the entire year upfront all in one shot, so after tax it should come out to just under $100 for the year. If you haven't registered your domain yet, a domain with BlueHost will run you $10 per year. Beyond that, as long as we stick within the scope of what's described above, there are no additional costs aside from your hosting account and domain registration.
Q. I like certain elements of several of the design options you offer. Can you combine elements of those designs into a single web site?
A. This can be done, but doing so would fall outside of the scope of these particular web sites. The way I keep your costs down is to stick to one of the design options listed above as is, offering the "Custom Colors" optional add-on if additional customization is desired to the look-and-feel.
Q. I see that your design options all have photos in them. I can replace those with my own photos, right?
A. Of course you can! The way I suggest doing this is by creating an account at iStockPhoto.com and selecting from one of the tens of thousands of low-cost but highly professional photos they have there.
Q. I notice that you offer to place 5 pages of my content onto the site for me. What if my site needs more than 5 pages to begin with?
A. Totally not a problem. I can add additional pages for you at $25 each, but I'd also suggest you check out our super-nifty how-to videos for yourself first, since WordPress really makes it so easy to add as many pages as you like.
Q. I already have hosting, but I have no idea where to get my hosting login information. Can you find that for me?
A. While I can certainly find this for you, it does usually take some extra time which I haven't accounted for in the cost of these web sites. So there would be an extra fee to cover the time I'd spend calling your tech support and doing whatever else is necessary to hunt down the info. As it happens, I have a very simple worksheet which lays out precisely what I need from you, and if you were to phone tech support at your hosting company with this worksheet in hand, you could be provided with everything you need very easily.
Q. I already have email marketing set up with another service. Can I just use that?
A. Sure! If it's just a matter of me pasting the signup form code from your current mailing service to your new site, that wouldn't cost you anything. However, if you need me to re-style the form to fit the look and feel of your new site, then there will be a charge depending on the extent of work I need to do to make it match. Just ask me about it once we get started.
Q. If I'd like additional 1-to-1 technical support in addition to the how-to videos, do you offer this?
A. Absolutely. If you feel you'd benefit from additional assistance, we can always work out a consulting arrangement on an hourly basis. Just contact me for details.
